The Aeroflot Open came to a conclusion with a three way tie for 1st, but only one birth in the Dortmund Chess Meeting (Super GM event) later this year. GM Mateusz Bartel from Poland, edged out Anton Korobov and Pajel Eljanov from Ukraine on tie-break. At the age of 27, the Polish Champion has represented his country in the past 3 Olympiads.
Fabiano Caruana, one of the pre-tournament favourites, finished among those ½ point behind the leaders, but managed to pick up a few more FIDE points and is expected to be in 7th position when the official FIDE list comes out at the end of the month.
