At the World Juniors on Monday, Polish GM Dariusz Swiercz won his final round game to catch Armenian GM Robert Hovhannisyan and take 1st place on tie-break. They had a full point lead over 3rd place finisher Indian IM Sahaj Grover, who came out of nowhere to win his final 3 rounds, for a GM norm. Roman Sapozhnikov ended the tournament on a high note and scored 7.5, while Shiyam Thavandiran settled for 5.5
Peter Svidler, won the Russian Super-Final with a round to spare, which for him was good thing as he lost his last round match to Alexander Morozevich. This was his 6th National Championship title. Final scores: Svidler 5, Morozevich 4.5, Karjakin, Kramnik, Grischuk 4, etc
Hou Yifan (CHN) finsihed the Rostov Grand Prix with a score of 9 out of 11, a full point ahead of Kateryn Lahno (UKR). Third was shared between Anna Muzychuk (SLO) and Tatian Kosinteva (RUS).
The Baku swiss ended with Sergei Zhigalko (BLR) maintaining his first place lead. His score of 7/9 was good for a half point lead over Emil Sutovsky (ISR) and Dimitri Andreikin (RUS).
