The CFC Regular Chess Post – March 21/13 B – New CFC Executive Director.

Michael Von Keitz has been selected as the winner of the just completed RFP for the Executive Director of the CFC. This contract is for a two year duration, commencing May 1, 2013.

Mr. Von Keitz of Kirkland Lake, ON, has a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics, and has served as both President of the Chess Federation of Canada and the Ontario Chess Federation.

The CFC Regular Chess Post – March 21/13 – CFC Has New “Official” Chess Books and Equipment Seller.

CFC recently put out a request for bids for an official CFC seller of chess books and equipment. We are pleased to announce that the new official CFC seller of chess books and equipment is the Chess ‘n Math Association (Executive Director, Larry Bevand). Here is more on CMA:

The Chess'n Math Association (CMA), Canada's National Scholastic Organization, is a non-profit group devoted to bringing the game of chess to Canadian youngsters. Established in 1985, the CMA offers chess lessons in over 300 schools, offers chess camps and runs tournaments including the prestigious Canadian Chess Challenge. The organization also sells chess books and equipment under the Strategy Games banner. You can find more information at http://www.chess-math.org/ .

The CFC Regular Chess Post – March 18/13 – Mauricie Open Results.

The Mauricie Open in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, was on March 15-17.
It has been one of the largest Canadian weekend swisses. It has had as many as 323 entries in the past. This year it had 213 (221 in 2011; 219 in 2012).
Six sections: one every 200 points - with $1000, $500, and $250 prizes (plus a $150 class prize) in most sections.
