Best of the Web: Week 18

Chess and youth!

Hi everyone,

On behalf of the newsfeed team, I would like to wish you all a belated merry Christmas, and a happy new year!

In this holiday season, I hope you all get some time off and enjoy a few games with friends, or perhaps even a tournament! You might also be interested in a few good chess-related movies, which is why my pick this week goes to two articles recently published on ChessBase about "Chess in the movies" and "Chess Movies" . The first article presents movies that are not necessarily about chess, but that have something to do with it, while the second one focuses on movies about chess. I'm sure you'll find something worth watching!

As outlined in the quote above, "Youth has triumphed"! John has been following the Canadian Team at the World Youth Chess Championship. You can find a list of the Canadian players here, and navigate to the results for each section by clicking on the "Pairings & Results" tab of the main page. You can also find some coverage on ChessBase. Congratulations to all the players for a strong showing, and a special shoutout to Harmony Zhu, who scored 9/11 and is tied for 1st in the Girls Under-8 section. Well done, Harmony!

The "Tournoi du Père Noël" organized by the Quebec Chess Federation is also going on as we speak in Montreal. You can find pairings and results for each section here.

More news and recommendations will be coming your way early in 2014!
