Best of the Web: week 13

Hi everyone!

I hope you enjoyed last week's challenge. I would be curious to know how many of you figured out the proof. I must confess I didn't!

Here are our picks for this week:

John is looking forward to the Sinquefield Cup: Carlsen, Aronian, Nakamura and Kamsky in a double round-robin tournament in St.Louis. The tournament starts tomorrow, and you can get free live commentary here with GM Maurice Ashley, GM Yasser Seirawan, and WGM Jennifer Shahade. The tournament website promises an "unprecedented spectator experience", so make sure you check it out!

John will also be following the World Junior Chess Championship, starting on September 12th. With 10 GMs and over 20 IMs (so far), this isn't the World Junior of old. Follow the tourney here.

Félix decided to share the CYCC games, which he thought were quite entertaining. You can download the pgn and cbv files here. According to Hugh Brodie, several games could have been saved if the youngsters knew their rook and pawn endings... I think that advice applies to lots of us!

My vote goes to the Youtube Channel of Kingscrusher, a candidate FIDE master who also runs Chessworld, a website where I used to play turn-based chess. You will find plenty of great instructional videos, about specific openings, famous tournaments, immortal games etc.

See you next week!
