Canada's Next IM: Olivier Kenta Chiku-Ratté!

Canada's next International Master will be Olivier Kenta Chiku-Ratté

The 20-year-old FM earned his third and final IM norm at the 2019 US Masters. Combined with a peak rating of 2406 in April 2019, this qualifies him the FIDE International Master title! This final Norm caps an incredibly busy year, which has seen OKCR play 83 FIDE-rated games in the first 7 months of 2019

The 2019 US Masters (August 21-25, 2019) was a 9-round Swiss with a $27,000 US prize fund in Chapel Hill, NOrth Carolina. OKCR scored +4 =1 -4, inclding wins over GMs Mikhalevski (below) and Michael Brown. His final round was a tame draw with IM Shiyam Thavandiran... but enough for the TPR.

Top Canadian at the 2019 US Masters was actually FM Rohan Talkudar, who lost his final round game to GM Awonder Liang to finish atop the 4.5/9 score group.

Our Canadian Game of the Week is FM Olivier Kenta Chiku-Ratté's win over GM Victor Mikhalevski at the 2019 US Masters. It's a model game against the Benoni, where White uses good preparation and combines kingside threats with a passed d-pawn for a seemingly simple win over an experienced GM.
