Fundraiser at CFS Leitrim

Congratulations to Master-Corporal Philippe Leveillée who won the NATO Chess Fundraiser held at the Canadian Forces Station Leitrim 24 July 2013. This fundraiser was to help support his trip to the 24th NATO Chess Championship in Poland. Master-Corporal Philippe Léveillée is the current Canadian Forces Champion and, while being the highest rated player of the night at 1988, he was facing strong opposition such as Lieutenant-Colonel (ret) Jean Bigras (1948) and many players in the 1800. There was 14 players in the rated section (FQE and CFC) and 10 players in the unrated section. Captain Pilon won the unrated section with 4 points in 4 games. Congratulation to Corporal Provencher who won a tournament kit (chess set and clock) and Corporal (ret) Herb Langer who won a 50$ gift certificate. Thanks to the volunteers and the support from the Ligue d'échecs de l'Outaouais, this chess night was a great succes!
