US Championships
March 29 - April 10, 2017

Two 12-player round robins to determine the national champion and women's champion of the United States. 

April 3 - Rest Day
April 10 - Playoff, if necessary 

Games start at 2:00 pm EST.

Big Three

With 11 of the 12 players over 2600 there are no easy rounds.
The main attraction will be the competiton between the top three players in the open RR:

  1. Wesley So, world #2 @ 2822.
  2. Fabiano Caruana, world #3 @ 2817, and defending champion.
  3. Hikaru Nakamura, world #6 @ 2793.

  • March 31: Round 3: So - Caruana
  • April 6: Round 8: So - Nakamura

Women's Championship

The favourites are: 

  • Anna Zatonskih, highest rated at 2451.
  • Irina Krush, 7-time Champion.
  • Nazi Paikidze, 2016 defending Champion. 

In round 1, So and Nakamura won while Caruana was held to a draw by Sam Shankland. 

On the women's side, jet-lagged top seed Anna Zatonskih blundered into a self-mate in a Rp vs Rp ending.
