This week's Canadian Tactic comes from the first round of the PRO Chess League playoffs. GM Aryam Abreu Delgado of the Miami Champions has just played e4 against GM Razvan Preotu of the Toronto Dragons. Black to play.
The first round of the PRO Chess League playoffs took place Wednesday, March 1, 2017. The Toronto Dragons had a tough opponent in the Miami Champions; even without their #1 Hikaru Nakamura they still outrated Toronto's #1 player GM Bator Sambuev (2548) with GMs Leinier Dominguez (2720) and Yunisky Quesada (2636) on boards 1 and 2.
Miami won by the minimum 8.5 - 7.5 score. It looked like it would be more, but Toronto stormed back in the last round to nearly tie: trailing 0-3 and still needing 1/2 a point to win the match, Dominguez held on to draw with Sambuev.
Miami plays the Montreal ChessBrahs in round 2, March 8, 2017.
The diagram position is from the game between Miami's board 3, GM Aryam Abreu and Toronto's board 2, GM Razvan Preotu (attack2mateU, on chess.com). Black to play.
