I am willing to state the rule that I will apply until over-ruled by some authority:

If someone wants to play in an age category older than the one they qualify for, they can do so.

BUT: if they win a spot in a certain age category to play at the WYCC, that is the age category that we are willing to send them to the WYCC in.

The CFC Regular Chess Post – April 11/12 – Richard Wang wins 2012 Alberta Closed.

At the age of 13 Richard Wang won the 2012 Alberta Closed Championship over the Easter weekend. Richard did so in style as along with the title he will now become an FM. Despite a last round loss to FM Vlad Pechenkin, Richard was the sole winner with 3.5/5. Second was shared by IM Edward Porper and NM Alex Yam with 3/5 each.

International News Today - April 25, 2012

Dimitry Jakovenko won the super strong European Individual Chess Championship.

Nigel Short won the Bangkok Open.

After the dust settled in Dubai, Ni Hua emerged the tie-break victor of a six way tie for 1st .

Aronian loses game three of friendly match with Kramnik. Score now 1.5-1.5

May is shaping up to be a really busy month on the International scene.

The CFC Regular Chess Post – May 1/12 – CMA Quebec Chess Challenge Championships.

The winners of the Quebec Chess Challenge held Sunday, April 29 (by grade), and their total number of titles won. Note the lack of so-called "pure laine" Québécois. (according to Statistics Canada, the Chinese ethnic group consists of 2% of the Montreal population (compared to 11% in Toronto, and 30% in Vancouver)). Other "minority" groups also won titles - including one female and one Black.
