National – GM Bator Sambuev ( 2702 ), Montreal, Quebec – 2011 Canadian Champion;

Women – WIM Yuanling Yuan ( 2328 ), Toronto, Ont. ( 17 years old )

This tournament consisted of a number of 6-player round robin sections, with approximately equally rated players in each section. It was played Jan. 20-22 at the Calgary Chess Club and attracted 48 players.. The ratings of the top section ranged from 2203 to 2096. The winner, with 4/5 pts., was NM Alex Yam ( 2203 ), the highest rated player.
